About MTC
East Liverpool Masonic Temple – Formerly the Goodwin House located at 422 Broadway Avenue was built in 1896 by James Goodwin of the prosperous Goodwin Pottery family.
This Colonial Revival style residence, was similar to the homes of his two brothers, George and Henry, owners of the Goodwin Brothers Pottery. The original brick building featured a symmetrical facade, rounded tower with conical roof and a front porch with paired Ionic columns. When the front was later extended, it appears the facade and dormers were moved forward.
James died suddenly and never saw his home on Broadway Street completed. However, his nephew, Homer Knowles, of Knowles, Taylor & Knowles Pottery and his family occupied it upon completion, living there until selling it to the local masons organization on October 19, 1909.
Following construction of a read addition, a stone sun porch was added in the front and large rooms to the rear, the Masonic Temple Company established it as their primary residence in 1910.
Since that time, the Masonic Temple has served as the primary meeting place for many organizations which were granted charters by the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio or other related masonic groups. Originally, Riddle Lodge # 315 operated sole group within the temple. In 1922, East Liverpool Masonic Lodge #681 was granted a charter and began operations at the location, with membership composed primarily of Crucible Steel workers. Throughout the years, both lodges grew in stature & membership with overall membership in the two blue lodges ranged from 736 to 843 from 1957 to 1979. Riddle Lodge achieved is highest membership of 525 members in 1966 and East Liverpool Lodge #681 amassed 335 members in 1979.

In addition, two primarily ladies masonic related organizations, the Crystal Chapter #18 Order of the Eastern Star and Social Order of the Beauceants Assembly # 71 conduct their primary functions within the temple as well.

Additionally, the East Liverpool Scottish Rite Association utilized the masonic temple for their activities.
Located in the heart of the city’s downtown historic district, the Masonic Temple was listed on the National & Ohio Register of Historic Places in 1985.
